The truth is, you are already very convincing, and it starts at a very young age. Being convincing is a natural skill that everyone has mastered with varying degrees of success.

In a recent study, Judgment and Decision Making, children ages 5 – 10 years old, predicted the person they were trading candy with would be more likely to accept an “unfair” deal if they thought the trade was in their best interest.

The children in the study understood that if they had something the other one wanted badly enough – and if they were able to leverage the other child’s own self-interest– they were more likely to get what they wanted – and maybe even a little more.
